大手毬（おおでまり）Viburnum plicatum

落葉低木　　　　すいかずら科がまずみ属　　　　分布地　関東以南

開花期　４～５月　　　　花径　１２ｃｍ位　　　　樹高　３ｍ位まで
やぶでまりの改良種で、枝先にあじさい状の白い装飾花を咲かせます。紫陽花より１ヶ月ほど早く開花します。集団花は紫陽花とは違う趣があります。植えるのは春先（３月）、挿し木も３～４月ですが、腐葉分の多い肥沃な湿潤地に植えます。やせ地、乾燥地や日陰地は好みませんので、夏には乾燥させないようにします。
中国には独自の占いの歴史が存在しているそうです。亀の甲を使う「亀甲占い」は有名で、甲羅にできるひびの入り方で占ったそうです。
